Fred Ahern
A member of the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame, Fred Ahern grew up playing in the South Boston Youth Hockey League, attended Boston Technical High School and then went on to Bowdoin College, where he eventually became team captain.
After leaving Bowdoin in 1974, Fred signed as a free agent with the California Seals and became the first player from South Boston to play in the NHL. He also played for the Cleveland Barons and the Colorado Rockies. Playing a total of 146 NHL games from 1975-1978, Fred scored 31 goals and had 30 assists. Ahern also played for Team USA in the 1976 Canada Cup. |
