Tuukka Rask
|
Tuukka Rask is widely regarded as one of the greatest goaltenders in Boston Bruins history, serving as the backbone of the franchise for more than a decade. Drafted 21st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs and later acquired by Boston in a trade, the Savonlinna, Finland native made his Bruins debut during the 2007–08 season. Rask quickly established himself as an elite presence in net, combining technical precision, calm composure, and exceptional positioning to become a cornerstone of the Bruins’ defensive identity.
Over the course of his career in Boston, Rask helped lead the Bruins to multiple deep playoff runs, including a Stanley Cup championship in 2011, where he served as the team’s backup goaltender during the title run. He later became the team’s undisputed starter and played a pivotal role in the Bruins reaching the Stanley Cup Final in both 2013 and 2019. In 2014, Rask captured the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender after posting one of the league’s most dominant seasons, further cementing his reputation among the elite netminders of his era. Rask retired as the winningest goaltender in Bruins history and ranks among the franchise’s all-time leaders in games played, shutouts, and save percentage. Known for his professionalism, competitive spirit, and dedication to the organization, he remains a beloved figure in Boston hockey. As a member of the Bruins Alumni community, Rask continues to represent the club with pride (even playing forward on the Bruins Alumni team), celebrating the legacy of Bruins hockey while staying connected with fans and the greater New England community. |
